ANOTHER FIRST FOR JAG WARS!
JAG WARS was first to an nonce the hiring of Dave Caldwell ( OK so I just guessed) and now JAG WARS introduces the NEW JAGS helmet. Everyone knows that the reason the Jags don't win is because they need new gear and especially gear with stripes like real football teams. Mr. Kahn also knows that your have to present a BRAND that shouts JACKSONVILLE too.  I believe this design or something similar will do the job and also make the players feel like they belong to a real team that has bars and stripes on their uniforms just like they did in their early days. Is it a coincidence that they began their downward spiral with the change of the helmet and the Jersey without stripes. Of course not it's a scientifically proven. Think back remember the Redskins with their FSU type helmets with the arrow? Well Vince Lombarde came in and changed that right away and made the Skins helmet more like Green Bays with the Indian head in a circle and stripes on the helmet.  Now you going to argue with Vince?

You know I really do like the idea of a uniform change, especially the helmet but remember that this blog always has a little TIC tongue in cheek approach  to things since there is so little we as fans can actually do except of course keep buying seats and going to the games.

DUVAL.....JAGUARS....DUVAL....JAGUARS.....DUVAL....JAGUARS...get it?
At least it is ours.. it's original and not taken from Marshall's cheer.

If anyone likes my ideas don't send money just buy tickets. i would like to see you at the game.....instead of fans who cheer for the other team. Make it so that they have to stay home where they belong. Don't let them in OUR HOUSE.

THE NEW TEAM MINUS ONE
New GM Dave Caldwell, Shad Kahn owner and Mark Lamping President

Minus one and that will complete the picture. The new Head Coach yet to be announced. This is the next key to what kind of team we are going to have. I like that Caldwell was decisive in his interview. I want him to be a hard nose decision maker not bound by friendship, emotional ties or financial deals that would tie him to players he does not want.

The financial ties to players is the one we will have to wait and see if that becomes a factor.  I sincerely believe that it was a big factor in the later WW years. In those years we stayed with bad players much too long and the only reason that makes sense to me financial. Got to get our moneys worth, even if it hurts the team and our record.  I don't see any elite teams keeping anyone that is not the best at their job.

Friendship and emotional attachments don't seem to be a hurdle for Mr. Caldwell. The release of Mularkey was evidence of his commitment to winning. Even when questioned about his friend the OC in San Francisco he almost put it to rest, at least for the moment since he is under contract. I also liked the he put to rest any scenario where TT would be come to Jax. This was bold and decisive because he even added "even if he is released".

the next announcement will tell us even more. Will the new HC be someone who has been a head coach? If not a head coach then will he come from with a offensive or defensive background. Here's an idea, what he the new coach came out of the AFC South? Someone who truly knows the Jaguars weakness's and someone that knows what it takes to win in our division.  I like this idea because I have always said we have to build to win the AFC South and the rest will take care of it's self.

I will be anxiously waiting just like many a fan to see the HC selection and then the who goes who stays. the only weak part of Dave's introduction speech I didn't specially like was giving a little support ot Gabbert in that he is so young...Well Russell Wilson is young too.  There is nothing to compare Gabbert to any other young QB except age. Gaggert is a waste of time and money and my patience.  Open completion is just another way of saying we haven't given up on him. Please you want a clean slate then dump Gabbert now.

OK so I'm not a Mr. Smarty Pants after all.

I just learned that Mike Mularkey was released. I was shocked! this is one thing I thought I was right on. I'm sorry for Mike but the move also makes way for a wholesale house cleaning that is probably for the best. The article on face book said that the new coach is on the way....I assume b that comment this means he has been chosen. Very interesting to say the least.

Good Luck to MM he's a great guy and will catch on somewhere, but I hope not in our division. I would hate to play against him.

WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN.

  • 1. The vision. The type of offense and defense we want and need to have to be successful in the AFC Soth. what type of offense and defense will best compete against teams in our division? I have my choices but it's not for me to choose,is it? Ok If you insist I would go with a ball control west coast type offense and a 3/4 defense which is the best system to stop a move the chains offense. Best to cover screens and tight ends.
    2. Once this has been decided then we can move on to the Head Coach and all other coaches, scouts and football related staff, and not until step on is a solid vision. with this said I believe that MM can still be the Head Coach, but I think all other coaches will still be up in the air until a joint decision of who can fit this new vision.
    3. Players we have and players we need can then be evaluated once step 1 and 2 are inplace. there is no sense talking about Tebow or anyone else unless he fits the new vision. I of course have my ideas about what current players WON'T fit the new direction.
    4. Players I feel won't fit new vision, since you asked. You did ask right? Any player too slow or can not get separation from defenders and may be a bit awkward. Good bye M. Lewis. No need for a full back anymore Good bye G. Jones. Good bye to non performers Jennings. Good bye to Meester. Goodby to Alualu and maybe another D linman. In a 3/4 we will need three very big and strong defenders. Babin my move to outside LB. We have good safeties but need more tall and strong ones to coave TE's . \

Thats a pretty good start .

PLEASE MR. KAHN
Please Mr. Kahn don't rush into this GM job. Really the GM from the Falcons? Maybe the guy from the San Fran but what the heck is this Atlanta connection? I wish you would think outside the box more.

There are few choices I have been thinking about. The first one to come to mind is Ton Coughlin. I know he is set at NY but maybe he's ready to do more than just coaching. Look back at the team he put together for the Jaguars as a brand new team. We all realize that it was a mistake to let him go after only a couple of bad years while rebuilding. I would trust this guy to choose the right Head Coach and players. He only made one mistake and that was RJ Sours. That could have made by anyone.  Ton has connections locally and to me he is the best fit for this city and team.  AAA rating.

Now thinking out of the box a little more I would suggest if there is no current GM available that has a very very good record like that of Green Bay or Pittsburgh then let's think about a youth movement.  Let's look for a young and energetic top scout that is looking to bring new ideas and a vision to Jacksonville. Maybe a scout with ambitions from Green Bay or Pittsburgh or even New England.  I wish I knew of such a person but I'm sure there is someone out there. Although I'm not sold on NFL Network guys maybe there is someone there that studies the players etc. night and day and has a keen sense of management.  Another option maybe a top college Athletic Director. Maybe.

GUILT BY ASSOCIATION

Sure I along with others were calling for Gene to go but in my case it was mostly because he was the last piece left over from all the bad choices made in getting and drafting players.  However he did do pretty good this past year when he seemed to be more in charge.

Maybe the choice of Gabbert was his final and biggest mistake and even then I wonder how much JDR had to do with that.  I suspect that because of the way that WW set up his chain of command it didn't allow for a strong GM but more of a group reporting to the owner. I hope that Mr. Kahn follow the a system that seems to work better for a lot of teams and that is Owner .. GN...Head Coach.

The new GM should be the main man who has the authority  and responsibility.
Under the new GM would be all of the football operations of coaches, players and scouts etc.

What do we want and what is the model we can follow?  simply this, we want what Green Bay has, we want what Pittsburgh's has, we want what an organization that gets good players and coaches and sticks with them as a family would. to have good players who want to stay year after year and are unselfish and think TEAM. Look at the teams that produce and win every year. What sets them apart?  It's not just money it's the way the organization is put together. I have to admit that I don't know what does it, but I want it. Mr. Kahn should study hard the operations of New England, New York and other perennials winners and follow their model.

Any way good luck to Gene Smith and don't be surprised if he does really well at his next team because he may have learned a lot from being here in Jax.
